The Beatles Rock Band Intro/Outro
![]()
The Rock Band series of videogames builds on the foundations laid by Harmonix’s Guitar Hero and its sequels. They are incredibly fun to play with friends and have provided endless hours of amusement. The Beatles iteration of the game has been released to coincide with the reissuing of their digitally remastered albums.
Whilst I haven’t purchased the game (yet), one thing about it has caught my eye. The videos that start and end the game are absolutely stunning in their design. The intro video is a highly stylised account of the Beatles development as a band. Its first half is a relatively straightforward pastiche of stages from their career whilst the latter half is basically a surrealist vision inspired by the groups psychedelic transition. Similarly, the outro encompasses all aspects of the group – their music, their roots, their changes and growth as a band.
basically the videos do not serve as a method to establish plot or introduce characters, as do so many in other videogames. Building on the assumption that almost everybody knows who the Beatles are, the movies are more of an homage to the band, and a reminder of the places we visit and emotions we feel when we listen to their music
